NYC’s go to color ensemble has always been all black. Seldom is the lasting trend an all something color besides black until now. Enter: RED, Fall's new IT color. Sure you can make the case that season after season the bold pantone makes its way onto runways and into our closets, but what if I asked you to don an outfit completely drenched in the color. Maybe you would think twice about trying to pull it off...but stay with me, this season things are going to get colorful.
From Prada to Altruzarra, fashion made powerful visual statements for the Fall/Winter season as red wrapped models from head to toe. Givenchy's Tisci even sent a brigade of marchers down the runway all in red versions of the designer's favorite looks for his final show as Creative Director of the house. Why red? One: Because it is the color of extremes! It represents fire, love, lust, anger, and passion among many other radical associations. Two: From a visual perspective it stands out. We all notice the woman in red, the shiny red car on the road or the red colored libation in the martini glass. Mix these two together and you get the perfect seductive visual concoction that only the creative minds behind fashion can bring.
So did I think twice about pulling it off? Nope, I channeled the spirit of extreme and laid it on thick. My Instagram teaser of this Hellessy look had many thinking the red flowy piece beneath my waist was a skirt when in fact it was so much more. Lets start with the silk trench which was slit along the bottom and featured a sewn back twist accent giving it a sensual and flowy look. The matching red cigarette skirt pants (yes skirt pants!) made a strong but feminine statement. And just when you thought there was enough red to feed a group of fire fighters, I paired my ensemble with matching red patent leather mules for an eyeful of monochromatic color. Do you have to go full blown? No. But gradually add more red into your outfits. Maybe start with a pair shoes then add a top or accessories and before you know it you will be RED-y for action.
Hope you enjoy! -Slightly Flirty c/o Gina Papa xoxo
