Although the humidity of summer is still in the New York City air, Fall/Winter prep is in full swing as our favorite shops flood their spaces with new inventory for the season. Even during NYFW many couldn’t resist the temptation of donning cold weather looks as layers, sweaters, and even leather shearlings were snapped along Clarkson Sq and Pier 59. Although I haven’t gone full blown fall yet, I have been on the prowl for new F/W ensembles. After some soul searching and runway and street inspiration, the message I was getting for this season was all about the sweater. But not just any sweater. The days of ordinary long sleeves in primary colors are over. Make room for the oversized, cropped, and exaggerated.
When Calvin Klein’s, Raf Simon's, creates a sweater that incorporates cropping, oversizing, and off the shoulder all in one and calls it “I love NY” you know its time to throw away that pilling ivory v-neck you keep taking out of the plastic storage bin. Or when the label you need to know, Monse drops a red wool cutout turtle neck, its time to step out of your shell. My oversized cable knit by Hellessy is no exception. With a jumbo neckline, I was allowed to drop one or two shoulders. As if that wasn’t enough, the oversized buttoned sleeves allowed you to sneak your limbs through the spaces between each closure. Finally, SWEATER 2.0 is versatile. Dress it down with a pair of on-trend checkered trousers or dress it up with a dress underneath. In my case, I chose an asymmetrical skirt in a contrasting color: marigold (another one of this season’s hot colors). Once you upgrade your sweater you get access to all the premium views, and channel your inner slightly flirty.
Hope you enjoy sweater weather! -Slightly Flirty c/o Gina Papa xoxo
